I’m Karen Brandenburg. I’ve been making custom wreaths and arrangements since I started my business in 1986. I hand pick materials right here on the coast of Maine – fresh balsam in winter; bittersweet and winterberry in autumn.
Our handmade wreaths and arrangements have been featured in House Beautiful and graced homes all over the country. We make custom wreaths and floral arrangement for individuals, businesses, and weddings, and always have a selection of one-of-a-kind creations in our two shops. Once upon a time…
I learned to love flowers while spending time in my mother’s expansive gardens in Cincinnati. With a never ending supply close at hand, I started arranging early on. Someone once said, “I’d rather have flowers than money.” I think I agree with that! It’s like having sunshine on a cloudy day.
After 18 years owning a gift and home furnishing business in Cincinnati, Flowers of the Meadow, my husband David, our beloved beagle Jack, and I made the move to Maine in 2004. The reality was better than the fantasy! But there was just no way to ignore the urge to open a new shop. We found a wonderful cottage on Blue Hill Bay and The Meadow was born! We expanded in 2015, opening a second shop in Belfast, Maine. It’s just a hop, skip and jump down the beautiful Atlantic coast in the heart of Belfast’s historic downtown.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our business has moved entirely online, but we look forward to seeing you in person again someday soon!
I love Christmas!
Before the first snowfall, I collect balsam tips from the fir trees around our farmhouse and create fresh wreaths for our door, balsam centerpieces for the dinner table, and balsam garlands for the mantel. (Oh how the house smells divine!)
At Christmastime we offer our wreaths and centerpieces to customers around the country, shipping hundreds each year. They really are unbelievably beautiful and luxurious, if I do say so myself. I personally make every velvet bow, and decorate each one by hand.
A Taste of Maine
We’ll never tire of the beauty and tranquility that surrounds us on the coast of Maine. In fact, we’ve never met a visitor who didn’t agree! From sailing the blue waters of Penobscot Bay to taking our beagles to explore the woods and fields around our old farmhouse, we can’t get enough. Here are some snapshots of our life hereabout.
